Fabric Ideas for Finn’s Weekly Photos

12 May

I haven’t bought fabric in almost 6 months people! Wow. Time to stock up again! Here are a few fabrics that I think would be cute/cool/nice/I-just-like-it-and-need-a-good-exuse-to-buy-it for Finn’s weekly photo project. We still have 23 more weeks to go and I don’t want a single one of those weeks to be on any more shower curtains. Well, I guess it could be a shower curtain so long as it’s not striped, sheer or shiny. Blech. My local fabric stores have some pretty weak selections so I’m turning to the internet for better options. I still have a number of fabrics in mind from when I was planning the nursery last year as seen here and here but I also like these new selections.

I can’t wait to use all of the fabrics for various projects when the 52 weeks are up. So help me, I WILL make a quilt and it WILL be large enough and sturdy enough to actually use.

Finley’s Nursery

4 Oct

I finally took some pictures of Finn’s nursery. I think the photos make it seem so much busier than it actually feels IN the room. Isn’t that rug psychedelic??? It’s kind of insanely awesome. Tummy time is going to be trippy. By the way, my official due date is NEXT Monday but our boy might be occupying this room within the week. You never know….

Mini House Tour

This is the main living area of our house, in all it’s technicolor overload. Yep, it really looks that bright in person. To see our house through the years, click here.

16 x 20 Living Room Prints

18 Aug

We’re thinking about having this series of images printed for our living room. They would each be 16 x 20 and we’d put them in good ol’ Ikea Ribba Frames. (We already bought the frames which are hanging on the LR walls right now.) We have so many images to choose from but we like that these are all from our summer trip out west last year. Without a doubt, it was a life changing experience so I don’t think I will tire of looking at these photos every day. We think we like this selection and arrangement:

Charley Harper Flashcards

3 Aug

I’m awaiting these in the mail sometime soon. Inexpensive nursery art. Kinda fanfriggintastic.

Botanical Motif Napkins

3 Aug

These are just dandy. I must add them to the running Ikea shopping list.

More Fabric Love

31 Jul

I need* this. I think I will make some sort of handbag/tote with it.

I also need this.

I’m fairly certain I need to make a sling out of this.

I think I need a tote made out of this. Or a sling. Or anything at all.

I’m sure I can come up with a “need” for this too.

And speaking of slings, almost every one I have seen in stores/online are quite dismal. I scrounged around the net looking for fabrics that 1.) I would like to wear on my body and 2.) would actually go with my wardrobe. I’d still like to find a couple more fabric options that are neutral in color but have a more modern and geometric print. For now, here are a few choices:

*Please substitute the word “want” for “need”.

Nursery: Owl Fabric Roundup

31 Jul

This fabric makes me sad that there’s not a spec of blue in the nursery.

Gray and white owls? No brainer.

Orange and white owls? Yes please.

Alexander Henry fabrics always come through for me.

Can’t go wrong with a little olive and teal combo.

Our House: Through The Years

17 Jun

To say that our house has seen some changes through the years would be an understatement!! I thought it would be fun to see just how much it has evolved since we got married in 2006. I hope to sort through some photos to find as many “before” pictures as I can that show our house when we had carpet and before we renovated the kitchen and took out a wall. :-)

Narrowing the Playing Field

20 May

Pink is now officially out of the question for the nursery which means it’s down to teal or orange, or both. Orange is taking the lead by far and I think I’m likin’ it. My initial mockup for a quilt idea included some fabrics that I don’t think are going to work for a little boy. (OH YEAH IT’S A BOY AND I’M SO EXCITED!!) Instead, I like the idea of simplifying the look by using only two different patterned fabrics. I’m not sure how the fabrics look in person but online, I likey. Here are my two choices:

I know I can buy $8 crib sheets at Target, but it’s our first child and I’m a fiend for custom design so I’m all about spending the extra money to buy these fabrics below to make my own sheets. It will still be $10 cheaper than buying comparable designer fabric sheets I’ve seen/liked for $30 a piece. So I guess what I’m saying is, I’m splurging for $20 custom crib sheets dang it. Oh by the way, we’re not doing those silly crib accoutrements like bumpers or pillows. Not necessary. Can’t believe these baby companies try to take you for all you’re worth with these insane $250 crib “bedding sets”. Nonsense.  We just need a crib, mattress (and pad) and fitted crib sheets. So I’m splurgin’ on the sheets.

I’ve got it narrowed down to a couple of extra “wild card” fabrics that I like but don’t necessarily have a use for. Maybe the fabric book slings? Dave isn’t really feeling those and since we both like the original book ledges, I might not end up making them. No biggie. But this olive green “Who’s Hoot” fabric by Michael Miller is too cute not to use somewhere.

I also continue to love this Alexander Henry “Spotted Owl” fabric but is it to frou-frou for a boy? Maybe it can be for something mommy-related like a SLING. Yiieah.
